Sheffield In the court baron held there on the ... day of December in the year of our Lord 1719 before John Batt, gentleman, deputy steward To this court came Thomas Marshall, son and heir of Thomas Marshall the elder, deceased and presented a certain deed whereby it appears that on the sixth day of December last past, the said Thomas Hollis of London, gentleman, did surrender into the hands of the Lord of the Manor: All that cottage, lands, and premises situated in Shalesmoor (Sheffield) formerly in the possession of Edward Ridge and afterwards John Marshall And all rights, liberties, profits, and appurtenances belonging to same To that intent that the Lord of the Manor might regrant the said property to the use of the said Thomas Hollis, his heirs and assigns forever And now the said Thomas Marshall (the son and heir) asks that this surrender may be admitted and entered into the court rolls Whereupon the steward, by authority of the Lord of the Manor, admits the said Thomas Hollis as tenant of the said premises, to hold of the Lord of the Manor by ancient rents and services The said Hollis paid to the Lord of the Manor a fine for admission and did fealty Signed - John Batt, Steward |
