The deposition of John Matley in the County of York, clothier, taken before Thomas Wentworth, William Rokeby, John Malinder and William West esquires by virtue of his Majesty's Commission for charitable uses, to them and others directed at Rotherham in the County of York the first day of June AD 1615 John Matley of Bradfield in the County of York, clothier, aged three score and twelve years or thereabouts, sworn says and deposits as follows: That about three score years since the Churchwardens then being of Bradfield felled or caused to be felled certain timber in a place in Bradfield called Stubbin towards the repair of the church and the church gates there and this was done in the right of the church of Bradfield and no other right that he knows of for that at the time the aforesaid there was fifteen pence yearly paid to those of the said church by one George Gillot for the occupation of the portion of ground called Stubbin then tenant thereof Examined by Robert Royston - Clerk to the Commissioners |
